Katja Erfurth - Dancer und Choreographer

Born in Dresden, 1971. Nine years of training at Palucca Schule Dresden, especially in Classic Training, Modern Dance and New Art Dance (created by Gret Palucca). 1990 engagement as a ballet dancer at Saxon State Opera (Semperoper) ending in 1997, then working freelance.

She danced in choreographies by Stefan Thoß, Arila Siegert and John Neumeier. Besides she initiadet many chamber dance and improvisation performances.

Since 1995 she has increasingly worked as a choreographer in several group and solo projekts.

Furthermore she performed her own pieces in cooperation with Volker Metzler „S.IEBEN“ – free after Salome von Oscar Wilde - with Tom Götze (double bass) and „achtSAME“ with Florian Mayer (violin).

Next created „mascara“ (7 deadly sins) – body theatr with masks and objects – in cooperation with Sabine Köhler and Carola Tautz and „Die Tänze der E.“ – wich well-know choreographers created the dancer´s soli for.

She also choreographed for many play productions under the direction of Volker Metzler, e.g. „Faust – Episode II“, of Karsten Gundermann in cooperation with „Theater Junge Generation“, the „Neue Elblandphilharmonie“ and „HELLERAU - European Center for the Arts Dresden“. She worked in several music theatre productions. In addition she gives lectures at subjects like Body-Language-Dance-Improvisation in the University of Music and the Academy of Fine Arts.

From 2002-13 she was in charge of the „Batzdorfer Pfingstspiele“ (a rural festival with theater, music and small market).

On the occasion of TANZherbst 2005 she got the prize oft he audience for her Solo „ver_wege(n)“.

From 2009-11 she was a member oft he commitee fort he promotion of arts oft he Freestaate Saxony. Since 2009 she has been a member in the arts commitee oft he City of Dresden.

In February 2013 she celebrated her first dance theatre play „Käthy im Wunderland“ – free after Lewis Carrolls´ Alice-Stories – with the assistance of Sascha Mock (percussion).

A short time ago she designed (together with Brit Becker) the choreography fort he dance project „Rock.You“ of the Staatsoperette Dresden after the music by Queen. Participants were 100 students.

In summer 2013 she did research as a scholar oft he cultural foundation of Saxony about dances of Mary Wigman and Dore Hoyer, who were epressive German Dancers.

Her Solo project based on the latter. It is called „Tänze in SCHARZWEISS“ („Dances in black and withe) dedicated to he memory of the expressionist dancer Dore Hoyer (1911-67).
